Blues win 1st Grade Grand Final | In a strong display, The Armidale Blues succeeded in securing the Major Premiership on Saturday, 49 - 15 against The Guyra Ghosts. The Blues were just too strong on the day, saving the best till the last 20 minutes when they ran in 4 unanswered tries. Man of the Match, Jason Hiscox had a blinderGuyra were competitive on the day, opening the scoring and leading 7 - 0 for sometime. But after the game settled and the Blues got into stride, they took the lead from 10 -7 to 17 - 10 at half time. It was still anyone's game but there was a feeling that if Armidale got into their stride, they could outclass Guyra, who were very competitive on the day and giving their all. | Outgoing Blues players hold the NERU Premiership shield high; Sobby (Steve O'Brien) Corny (Phil Franklin) Gudge (Patrick Strong) & H (John Roberts). | The half time talk settled the players and the final 20 minutes saw them totally dominate in most facets of the game. | Fiji Joe Vusoniua had a powerhouse game in the front row - the scrums were pretty even and a feature of the tussle. | Coach Alan Jones was philosophical about the team's performance throughout the season. Having won the Minor Premiership, he felt it was important to complete the season with a win in the Grand Fina.l "The guys remembered how it felt to lose a grand final and they came back this year with a steely attitude. From a coach's point of view, it makes it very easy to prepare them for Saturdays. While Guyra gave it to us early, I think we had the edge on them with our fitness." Full credit should be given to the Guyra team and their Club. They have become a force to be reckoned with and while their coach Sam White was disappointed, recognition should go to the players and supporters who have worked hard all year to develop their Club. Armidale 49 (Alex Smith 2, John Roberts 2, Jason Hiscox, Mitch Hiscox, Phil Franklin, Mike Te Moana, Jack Allison 3 con 1 pen)defeated Guyra 15 (James Walker, John Adams tries, Brodie Baxter 1 con 1 pen)

Blues ready for Guyra
1st Grade Grand Final - Saturday August 28th, 2010 | Alexander Frank prepares for the big one.......
If looks are anything to go by, the Blues will be tough to beat this Saturday in the NERU 1st Grade competition.
Coach, Alan Jones, has been working all season preparing the team for their assault on the title. "While one of our main goals for the season was to secure the Minor Premiership, everyone remembers who wins Grand Finals. We are leaving no stone unturned in preparation of the game v Guyra" Clearly, Smithy has taken on board the words of Coach Jones, and has already begun his mental preparation for the day. And if his mental preparation is half as good as his physical preparation, he's ready for the big one. Last year Smith was racked with injury and frustrations with his own season and he is keen to make amends. "Many thought I didn't have the staying power for a long and torrid season and I'm keen to prove them wrong." If his current form is anything to go by, his contribution will go far to ensuring the team is firing on all cylinders.
